Thank You!

Many of us agree that life moves fast.  So fast that I often forget to be thankful to God and grateful to the service men and women who blessed me and my family with the freedom that define our country and the ol’ red, white and blue.  So, without moving forward another line, I want to say THANK YOU to all those that have served the United States of America and protected the vision of freedom.
It’s a scary thought to think that America would not be free.  It’s also a scary thought that as the years go by freedom becomes more and more of a “entitlement”.  Ah, entitlement, the dreaded word that is generally pinned to my generation and others that have followed.  What does entitlement mean, exactly?

I have asked these questions in my head and I’d bet that many of you have also:

  • As an American, aren’t I entitled to freedom?
  • Doesn’t being an American make me successful?
  • Don’t I deserve the natural rights bestowed on me by the Creator God?
  • Aren’t the legal rights provided me by the United States Constitution guaranteed forever?

Asking these kinds of questions may indicate that entitlement is rearing its ugly head (and the rest of its ogre-like body). When we are not grateful and we forge the sacrifice that is required, the entitled attitude can take us over.  Once entitled becomes who we are it is hard to shake loose.
If you have noticed that attitude of entitlement, you are not alone.  I have had it myself.  Here are some practical ways to prevent this pervasive attitude in our own lives:

  1. Meditate on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who gave His life on the cross for you and me over 2,000 years ago.
  2. Thank God for the gifts in your life including salvation and freedom in the USA.
  3. Write down places in your life when entitlement drove your decision-making.
  4. Pray that God would give you a new heart for those areas in your life (i.e.: family, work, church, volunteer-work, etc)
  5. Thank men and women who are currently serving and have served in our military.
  6. Start by sacrificing today.  Give of your time, talent or treasure immediately — don’t wait!

The good news is that we are free.  We do have a risen King Jesus, who tells us that when we follow Him, we are free. We do live in the United States of America, that is still the land of the free and home of the brave.  Amen!
May God Bless America and those who stand firm to protect it.
